HOLIDAY SURVIVORS:

A winter wildlife painting of wild turkeys in the snow, rendered in watercolor. The first settlers to the mountains had to hunt for food for their holiday table, hence the name for this painting, “Holiday Survivors.” In 1934, when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was created, the entire turkey population was estimated at 315 birds. Thankfully, with the efforts of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the turkey population has rebounded. They are now a familiar sight along Smokies byways.
